Safety Kitchen Procedures

  1. Make sure the area is well-lighted when working.
  2. Read accompanying operational intructions before using any requirement.
  3. Wipe dry wet floors to avoid spilling or falling.
  4. Always close drawers to avoid running into them.
  5. Wash sharp knives separately to avoid possible cuts while washing.
  6. Use well padded pot holders to avoid burning your hands on the handles.
  7. Keep matches out of the reach of small children. Keep them in safe places.
  8. Get rid of cracked or chipped chinaware or glassware to avoid possible cuts.
  9. When removing skin of fruits or slicing, cut away from you and not toward you. Better still, use a cutting board.
  10. Use pans of adequate size with the amount of food to be cooked. This will avoid boiling over.
  11. Use for tongs for removing foods from hot water, hot oven and hot oil.
  12. Store knives with the blades facing one direction to avoid possible cuts.

Nonconventional Foods

Another way of solving the problem of food shortage is by using nonconventional source of food. As far as i know, Scientists and technologists continue their search for food sources that increase the world's food supply and improve human nutrition.

This table shows the amount of protein (in percent) found in lean pork, beef, chevon (goat meat), carabeef (carabao meat), rabbit meat.

Amount Of Protein Found in Meat

MEAT ---> %PROTEIN
Pork ---> 17.90
Carabeef ---> 20.47*
Chevon ---> 20.29**
Rabbit ---> 19.7 to 21

*Average of three data sources
** Average of four data sources

Scientist and Technologists also study ways to get protein from leaves and from microorganisms that have been found yield adequate amounts of protein. Protein prepared from leaves is called leaf protein concentrate (LPC), and that from microorganisms is called single cell-protein (SCP). Yeast is other microorganisms are cultured to make SCP that is now used in food preparation. SCP can also be texturized like textured vegetable (TVP) or vegemeat. It can be combined with meat to make hamburger, hotdog, and sausage.

Food

Traditionally, fermentation in soy sauce-making takes place from one to three hours and requires the standard room temperature 37 degree Celsius. However, recent studies have established that good quality soy sauce needs to be fermented for a month at 40 degree Celsius. Bacteria is needed in the fermentation process to breakdown substances. You know that Scientists used the salt tolerant lactic acid bacteria, Lactobacillus delbrueckii. They also discovered that monggo beans are good substitute for soya beans.

Plants Make Food

Unlike animals, plants themselves make the food they need through a process called photosynthesis. "Photo" means light. "Synthesis" means putting together. Photosynthesis means putting together using light.

The raw materials needed for the process are found in the environment. Water comes from the soil. Carbon dioxide is one of the gases in the atmosphere. Energy for putting together carbon dioxide and water comes from the sun.

Energy

Hey guys ! You know that Food is one of the basic needs in our life? Like Green plants are unique in the sense that can we manufacture their own food and, thus, supply the energy that they require. And you know how?

Because Energy is the defined as the capacity to do work. There are many different forms of energy - the light, chemical, mechanical, electrical and the nuclear. Energy can be transformed from one form to another. But where does energy come from? You know that the sun is our sole source of light energy. Chlorophyll containing plants convert light energy to chemical energy in the form of food (glucose) through the process of photosynthesis.

Special Gift

The whole Christmas story is filled with miracles,
like angelic visitations
and divine dreams,
which pale to insignificance
in light of the really big Miracle -
a virgin giving birth
to the son of God!

I cannot comprehend it,
it makes no sense to me.
How could the infinite, eternal God
become a tiny baby?
And not only how, but why?
Why would He choose to born to peasant parents?
Why would He empty Himself
of every advantage of His divine nature?
Why would He choose to become a servant
to the race He created?
Why would He humble Himself
and become a obedient to death,
even death on a cross?
This mystery is too great for me.
I cannot comprehend it,
I cannot explain it,
but I accept it!

For reasons,
which only His holy love can explain,
God chose to become one of us,
to suffer the consequences of our sin
in order to give birth to the miracle of forgiveness/
When I accept His holy love,
His gift of forgiveness,
a Christmas miracle happens in my own life.
My sinful past,
those selfish, hurtful acts,
those pieces of misplaced furniture
which separate me from those I love
and from God,
are suddenly gone and were are one!

Forgiveness does not change the past,
nothing can do that,
but it does something better,
it unlocks the future and that's the greatest miracle of all,
the ultimate miracle of Christmas.
